The Wedding Resorts Of The Cook Islands

Whether you choose an old limestone church, a white sand beach or an uninhabited island in a blue lagoon for the wedding, the atmosphere is simply one of romance.

The Cook Islands can be a little more difficult to get to as most flights go via Auckland but as the folk at Cook Islands Tourism say, “it’s only two meals and two movies from Australia”. And if you are a Kiwi, the stopover isn’t a drawback.

The Cook Islands are stunning scenically with white sand beaches and azure blue lagoons. Couples have a choice of marrying on the main island of Rarotonga or the lagoon island of Aitutaki. A good combination can be to have the wedding ceremony on ‘Raro’ and the honeymoon on Aitutaki.

The main island of Rarotonga isn’t huge – it only takes 45 minutes to do a lap of the island by road, so it is very easy to explore, visit restaurants and ‘resort hop’. Aitutaki is a short domestic flight away and approaching from the air shows you what a magnificent lagoon awaits. Aitutaki life is even more laid back than on Raro with some excellent accommodation and dining options.

Catholic, other denominations and civil ceremonies can be arranged. We only recommend properties that we have personally experienced and wedding packages range from around $1000 to $2000, depending on the location and the inclusions (some samples here).

Following is an overview of some of the wedding locations.

Pacific Resort Rarotonga

Pacific Resort Rarotonga Located right on beautiful Muri Beach, Rarotonga’s premier boutique hotel has a private waterway, pool complex and restaurants right on the beach. This intimate collection of one and two bedroom apartments and villas, with garden or beachfront locations suit both couples and couples who have guests attending the ceremony. Elegant and informal, Pacific Resort Rarotonga is a terrific setting for memorable weddings and honeymoons.

Rarotongan Beach Resort & Spa

Rarotongan Beach Resort & Spa This resort is one of Rarotonga’s largest properties where modern comforts blend with the charm of traditional Polynesia. Set on Aroa Beach on the shores of Aroa Lagoon (the Lagoon of Love), The Rarotongan is on the island’s sunshine southwest coast where guests can enjoy all-day sun, stunning sunsets, all-tide safe swimming and excellent off-beach snorkelling in the marine sanctuary directly in front of the resort. This is the only Cooks resort with a Kids Club so can suit couples with guests attending and there is a new sister resort, Sanctuary Rarotonga, right on the beach for adults only.

Pacific Resort Aitutaki

Pacific Resort Aitutaki Pacific Resort Aitutaki is a stunning boutique property offering secluded luxury (one of the best we have had the pleasure of staying in!). With 17 acres of tropical forest and over half a kilometre of white sand beach, the resort features Polynesian architecture, colonial furnishings, fine food and beverages and natural island hospitality. The villas are scattered amongst manicured tropical surroundings to maximise privacy and the spectacular views of the beach, lagoon and ocean beyond. With spectacular scenery and awe-inspiring sunsets, the location is perfect for an island wedding.

We can also organise weddings at other resorts on both Rarotonga and Aitutaki, including: Muri Beach Club (privately owned boutique adults only property on Muri Lagoon), The Little Polynesian (awarded Cook Island’s Leading Boutique Hotel 2008/2009 in the World Travel Awards), Sea Change (stunning villas with plunge pools and lagoon backdrop of Titikaveka Lagoon as the backdrop for weddings) and Rumours Luxury Villas & Spa (for total luxury and indulgence) on Rarotonga and, on Aitutaki, Tamanu Beach Resort (family-owned and managed boutique beachfront resort offering casual luxury).
